What it is
The SHISEIDO Eyelash Curler is a Japanese eyelash curler with a steel frame, silicone rubber pad and a curve shaped around eyelid research rather than a generic template. It curls from the base of the lash rather than the mid-length, and each unit is hand-adjusted during finishing. It measures 103mm and includes one replacement rubber.
Why it's different
The frame curve is calculated around Japanese eyelid contours, which is why it reaches the very base of the lash on eye shapes that generic curlers skip over.
Each unit is hand-adjusted at the finishing stage, which is the reason it has stayed a Japanese standard for decades rather than being replaced by a cheaper equivalent.
Includes a replacement rubber, and the rubber should be changed roughly once a year. A worn pad is the usual cause of broken lashes.
Key ingredients
How to use
1. Look down into a mirror so you can see the lash line clearly.
2. Check the upper frame sits centred on the rubber pad before you close it. Off-centre, it will cut lashes.
3. Gently close at the base of the lashes and hold briefly. Do not squeeze hard.
4. For a softer curl, repeat in three stages from base to tip, changing the angle slightly each time.
5. Wipe the pad with a tissue after use.
Replace the rubber roughly once a year, or sooner if it shows a groove.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this authentic?
Yes. We only buy from official retailers and directly from the brands here in Japan. Never resellers, never grey market stock.
We are beauty lovers too, so we know the worry, especially with something you are putting on your face. Authenticity is 100% guaranteed by us.
How often should I replace the rubber pad?
Roughly once a year with regular use, and sooner if you can see or feel a groove worn into it. A worn pad puts uneven pressure along the lash, which is the most common cause of lashes snapping mid-length. One replacement rubber comes with the curler.
Will it fit my eye shape?
The curve is designed around Japanese eyelid research, which in practice means a flatter, wider curve than many Western curlers. It suits most eye shapes, but if you have a very rounded or deep-set eye you may find it does not sit flush at the outer corner. Curling in sections rather than one press solves most of this.
Should I curl before or after mascara?
Before, always. Curling over dried mascara makes lashes brittle and they break at the clamp point. If you want extra hold, curl first, apply mascara, and let it set fully rather than curling again.
Why does it cost more than a drugstore curler?
The frame is hand-adjusted during finishing rather than machine-set, and the curve is designed rather than generic. Whether that is worth it depends on how much lash curling matters to you. What it reliably buys is even pressure across the lash line, which is what prevents the crimped angle a cheap curler leaves.

It's a classic product that has been around for a long time and I've been using it for a long time! I hadn't used it recently because I got my eyelashes permed, but when I used it for the first time in a while, I could tell that my eyelashes looked completely different! They really lift from the roots, and just by applying a little mascara on top, they separate and give the roots a completely different look, so I'll continue to use it carefully ∩^ω^∩
It fits perfectly on my lower eyelid. This is my go-to when curling my lower lashes! It makes applying mascara to my lower lashes so much easier. This curler is specifically for the lower lashes. For my upper lashes, the black Shiseido curler picks up the lashes at the outer corners of my eyes.
