Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioner is a Japanese hydrating toner in a 500ml bottle. It is built around Job's tears extract, a plant source of amino acids, in a thin, fast-absorbing formula that is fragrance-free, alcohol-free, oil-free and surfactant-free. Applied in generous layers to face or body, or used as a lotion mask on cotton pads.
Why it's different

How to use
1. After cleansing, pour a generous amount into your palms.
2. Press it into the skin, then repeat two or three times.
3. Stop when the skin feels cool to the touch, which is the sign it has taken up enough.
4. Follow with an emulsion or cream to seal it in. On its own it does not hold moisture in.
Also works as a lotion mask on cotton pads for five minutes, and on the body after sun exposure.

How do I use it as a lotion mask?
Soak four or five cotton pads until saturated, split them if you want thinner layers, and lay them over the face for around five minutes. Do not leave them until they dry out, because drying pads draw moisture back off the skin. Follow immediately with a moisturizer.
Is it enough on its own, or do I need a moisturizer after?
You need something after it. It is a hydrating layer with no oil and no occlusive, so it delivers water to the skin but does nothing to keep it there. Follow with an emulsion, gel or cream, otherwise the hydration evaporates and the skin can end up drier than before.
Can I use it on my body?
Yes, and the 500ml size is intended for it. It is commonly used on the arms, legs and back, and after sun exposure, because it is fragrance-free and alcohol-free. Follow with a body lotion on dry areas for the same reason as on the face.
What is Job's tears?
Job's tears, or hatomugi in Japanese, is a grain related to barley. The seed extract is used in Japanese skincare as a plant-derived source of amino acids and has a long history in both traditional remedies and modern products. In this formula it is the main moisturizing ingredient.

I've used this so much I can't even count how many times I've repurchased it. When I went to the dermatologist for back acne, I was told, "Your back is also dry, so just use a cheap lotion," and that's what I've been using ever since. It feels so refreshing and not sticky, and I love it. I feel like I have fewer back acnes. I also use it as a pre-lotion for my face. The spray pump that came with it before is very easy to use, and it's great because it prevents the lotion from coming out too much.

When my skin was dry and itchy in the winter, a friend recommended this to me. It's famous, so of course I'd seen it before, but I never thought of it as moisturizing, so I never bought it. I was considering buying a lotion spray that costs several times as much, but I decided to give it a try. (The type that comes with a spray pump.) I spritz it all over my body after a bath. I spritz as much as I want without being stingy. It's possible at this price and with this amount. I applied cream on top of it, and the next day, my skin wasn't itchy!! It felt moisturized!! And because it's a mist, it felt like it penetrated even more!! It's refreshing, but amazing!! I'll definitely be buying it again and will keep buying it!!!
I splash it on with my elementary school-aged child after bath time. It's not sticky, so it can be used on the body too. The large size means you can use as much as you want without worrying.
