Take an appropriate amount onto the brush and apply from the base of the eyelashes.

I think this is the best. The mascara doesn't feel uncomfortable at all. It's not so much color as it is shine, and it makes my eyelashes look longer and slender. I have eyes that tend to fade easily, so no matter what I wear, my under-eye area would always be completely black by the evening, but this doesn't happen. I wrote about this before with Clé de Peau Beauté mascara, but after a few days, it started to fade under my eyes in the evening. Even when I'm low on Shu Uemura, it still doesn't fade. I'll update my Clé de Peau Beauté review.
This is the best black mascara I've ever used. It's easy to grip and easy to apply to even the smallest details. It doesn't clump and the elegant, glossy black is exquisite. I love the color and texture, which blends well with any eyeshadow. The packaging is also beautifully designed, and just holding it makes me feel good. I'll definitely be buying it again.
It comes off with hot water, but I thought it had a strong curl. It does come off a little more than the oil-based type, but I think it's great that it has this much curl and can be washed off with hot water.
