If it gets on your clothes, avoid using chlorine bleach. After use, close the lid tightly and store the compact with the bottom facing down. Wash the puff frequently, as dirt will become harder to remove. When the puff is dirty, apply a mild detergent to the puff and wash it by pressing out the dirt with your fingers. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water until no more foam comes out when squeezed, and dry completely in the shade. (Sometimes color may remain on the puff even after washing. Be careful not to rub it too hard, as this may damage the puff.)
