259 Nude I chose the color based solely on the image on Ribbonnet. I wanted a nude pink-beige, but it turned out to be a little off. When I put it on my hand, I was devastated, thinking, "What a mess!" But the makeup artist told me that the color would look different on my hands and lips, so I trusted her and gave it a try. It turned out pretty good. On my hand, it was a bright pink, but on my lips, it wasn't as bright and blended in nicely. It also comes with a blending brush on the other side, which is super convenient, but it also has a cap and is really long. It's too long to fit in my pouch until I sharpen it. The color lasts really well. Even when I tried to wipe the line I drew on my hand with a tissue, it didn't come off at all. As an aside, I'd always been using lip liner incorrectly—when I was creating an over-lip look, I would only use it on the over-lip line. So even a slight difference between the lipstick and lip liner colors made it look unnatural. I saw a video of a makeup artist filling in about half of her lips with liner, so I tried to do the same and filled in about half of my lips with liner before applying lipstick (including over-lining), and it turned out amazing! I'm over 50, so it's embarrassing. But I'm sure there are others who use it the same way I do.
This is the first time I've purchased a lip pencil from a department store, and it's Dior, so I can't compare it to other brands, but until now I've been using Chifure's lip liner (the shade is 574, a reddish color). The Dior pencil is resistant to rubbing and has a brush on the other side, so I was able to draw an outline in the four corners of my mouth, then lightly apply a little on my lips with the pencil and blend with the brush to adjust the color of my lips. After that, I applied lipstick and it colored beautifully! If you experience dryness, moisturize with lip balm before applying the pencil, then blot with a tissue, then outline and correct your lip color, then apply lipstick. There wasn't much difference in color between the 525 Shelly and Chifure's 574 reds I purchased. For darker lipstick colors, reds and wine reds worked well. Dior lip pencils are so long, they're not great for carrying around, so I touch up my Dior lip pencil before going out. I use Chifure's. It also comes with a sharpener, which is convenient, but it's not portable unless you use it quite a lot. Regarding smudging, Dior lip pencils don't smudge, but if you use too much, if you outline your entire lip with a dark color, after eating or drinking, only the outline will remain, making it look like a penguin's beak, so be careful. I personally recommend using just the four corners of your mouth.
It's very easy to apply. You can trace the outline smoothly without applying pressure. It's also comfortable to use. I like the color because it doesn't interfere with my lip color.
I tried to imitate Minami Tanaka's lipstick, as she uses it. If you outline the lipstick and lightly fill it in, you'll get a stylish look. I think it would also look cute on its own or combined with a gloss.
