Since I quit my job during the COVID-19 pandemic and have been wearing my hair in a ponytail, I've suddenly started to notice a receding hairline. Especially now that I'm postmenopausal. I've been using hair essences, but I was looking for something more proactive to promote hair growth. There was one thing I absolutely had to consider: alcohol-free. However, hair growth products rely on alcohol for penetration, so alcohol-free options are hard to come by. I was about to give up when I found this. It was alcohol-free, and it was from my favorite brand, AndB, so I felt even more at ease. However, I was concerned about one ingredient, pidocidil. It's said to have similar effects to minoxidil, but minoxidil is not recommended for women, so I was afraid to use it. While pidocidil is not a medicinal ingredient and is registered as a cosmetic, its similar molecular structure and potential side effects make me concerned. Even if it's not available now, it's still unclear what will come out in the future. In that sense, I would have preferred one without piroxidil, but I couldn't find anything else that worked, so I was desperate and decided to buy it and give it a try. The application is very gentle, as expected from an alcohol-free product. Reviews said it was cooling, but I didn't feel that much. For now, I didn't experience any itching or rashes, so I'm relieved. However, I won't know for sure until I've used it for a while, so I'm limiting it to spot use rather than widespread use. The hair growth effect is still to come. I'll review it again if there's any improvement. 1/24 Update: Since then, I've continued using it spot-on, gradually expanding the area, but recently, I've started to experience itching whenever I use it. It was fine at first, but it seems to have stopped working on larger areas. By the end, it was so itchy that I had to scratch. Since it was only itchy on the area where I applied it, I guess it just wasn't right for me. Unfortunately, I've shelved it. I still don't know if it's effective at hair growth.
