What it is
DHC Medicated Lip Cream is a Japanese lip balm in stick form, built on olive virgin oil with aloe extract. It softens dry, flaking lips and holds moisture without a heavy or waxy finish. Applied in a thin layer without pressure, it can be worn alone, under lipstick, or overnight as a recovery step.
Why it's different
Olive virgin oil as the base rather than petrolatum, which gives a lighter finish than most drugstore lip balms.
Applied without pressure by design. Pressing a balm into already damaged lips causes more irritation than the balm resolves.
Unscented and untinted, so it layers under lipstick without shifting the colour and works overnight without a taste.
How to use
1. Apply a thin layer along the lips.
2. Glide the stick without pressing. Pressure on cracked lips makes irritation worse.
3. Reapply through the day as needed, and before bed for overnight recovery.
4. Under lipstick, apply and let it settle for a minute before the colour goes on.

Why does it say to apply without pressing?
Because damaged lips have a compromised surface, and rubbing a stick into them adds friction to skin that is already broken. Gliding it on lets the oils sit on the surface and do the work. It is a small instruction that makes a noticeable difference on badly chapped lips.
Can I wear it under lipstick?
Yes. It is unscented and untinted, so it will not alter the colour. Apply a thin layer and give it a minute to settle before the lipstick, otherwise the balm can cause the colour to slide or sit unevenly. For long-wear liquid lipsticks, use less.
Is it suitable for very chapped or cracked lips?
It is what most people in Japan use for exactly that. Apply it frequently through the day and again before bed. If lips are split, bleeding, or persistently sore for more than a couple of weeks, that is worth a doctor's opinion, since chronic cracking at the corners in particular can have causes a balm will not fix.
Does it contain fragrance?
No added fragrance, which is one reason it is widely used overnight and under lipstick. Some people notice a faint natural scent from the olive oil base, which is not an added fragrance.
