What it is
This spatula, available exclusively in Japan, is made from 100% recycled aluminum from retired Tokaido Shinkansen trains. It can be used to scoop cream-type products. A uniquely Japanese initiative, the use of recycled Shinkansen aluminum was made possible through a mutual support from the Central Japan Railway Company, which promotes environmental conservation and resource efficiency, and The Body Shop, which has engaged in numerous sustainable activities. Dimensions (approx.): Length 12cm x Width 1.8cm x Thickness 0.2cm. About Tokaido Shinkansen recycled aluminum: Aluminum material recycling was made possible by successfully developing a method to remove deposits from aluminum used in Tokaido Shinkansen trains and extract only the high-purity aluminum alloy. Compared to producing new aluminum, this method requires less energy, resulting in a 97% reduction in CO2 emissions and a reduced environmental impact.

I've been using this for a while because I want to use jar-type creams and other items hygienically. I thought it would be nice to have another one, so I bought one. I can't think of any particular reason why it's so easy to use, but I've used the Tokaido Shinkansen a lot, so I'm quite attached to it lol. The 0 series was especially cute. It doesn't come with a carrying case (maybe they didn't include one on purpose), so I modify some sturdy-looking Western-style envelopes and small envelopes I have at home to use as a case.
I bought this to use for removing thick, firm creams. I usually use spatulas from MUJI or House of Rose, but I wanted something longer, so I looked around. I heard it was made from recycled materials from the Shinkansen, and as I love traveling and trains, I thought, "This is it!" To be honest, they sell them at 100 yen stores, and ultimately a disposable wooden spatula would be fine, but it's fun to be particular about small items like this.
It's nice that they use recycled materials. The spatula is essential for the jar type, so I'll probably buy it again if it's in stock!
I use the body butter, it's so easy to use.
I've never used a spatula before, but I hated the idea of moisturizing cream getting into my nails... so I finally bought one! I didn't have any irritation when I tried it, so I'm glad I bought it!
